What is Ozempic®?

Ozempic® (Semaglutide) is a once a week injectable medication formulated to help type 2 diabetic patients manage and lower their blood sugar levels over time.

Ozempic® also mimics a crucial digestive hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1. This hormone is produced in the gut and released in response to food, and causes reduced appetite and the release of insulin. It may also help adults with known heart disease lower their risk for cardiovascular events such as stroke or heart attack.

Is Ozempic® Insulin?

No, Ozempic® (Semaglutide) is not insulin, but it is a medication that is used to treat type 2 diabetes.

Ozempic® (Semaglutide) is classified as a ‘receptor agonist’ which means it sends messages to cells in our body, causing them to respond in a specific way.

In the case of Ozempic®, it stimulates insulin release from the pancreas, therefore increasing insulin secretion and reducing glucagon secretion (which raises blood sugar levels).

How Does Ozempic® Help with Weight Loss?

Ozempic®(Semaglutide) works by controlling the part of the brain that regulates hunger and fullness.

When taken regularly, it can lead to the reduction of food intake, ultimately resulting in weight loss! Ozempic® also slows down the emptying of the stomach, which can help you feel fuller for longer periods of time.

In simplest terms, Ozempic® leads to a reduction in caloric intake which in turn leads to weight loss.

Does it work?

In clinical trials, patients taking Ozempic® have shown significant weight loss compared to those taking a placebo. However, because it is a prescription medication, Ozempic® should only be used as directed by your healthcare provider.

Is Ozempic® right for me?

It is essential that you speak to a licensed healthcare professional. Like with any medication, some patients with certain pre-existing medical conditions may not be suitable for Ozempic®.
